Record Details

Species Somatochlora semicircularis (Mountain Emerald)
Specimen Notes Unmistakable species about meadowhawk size. When it landed I could see that Emerald green color throughout the dragonfly. What I noted though that separated it from American Emerald was those golden yellow thorax spots on the side. Based on range also I knew it could only be two species. It landed and posed nicely for a good photograph.

Decision Notes This photo fills in the 'hole' in the distribution record for the species. She appears to indeed be a Mountain Emerald. - kb

Location Details

Location Fresno County, California, United States
Location Notes This road gets up on top of the mountain and it's looks to be an old burned area with lots of snags. The Emerald was just cruising up and down the road and landed on a fir when I got the picture.
